About CAHC

The CAHC was formed in 2002 following an early life as an informal coalition of organizations with an interest in animal health issues in Canadian flocks and herds. Since that time, the organization has flourished as a project based organization addressing issues of concern to industry and government through projects funded by industry and government.

Past Activities

  • Led a group of industry and government leaders to the European Union to gain experience from those who were directly affected by Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in the EU
  • Developed an Economic Assessment of the impact of a FMD outbreak in Canada
  • Assisted development of industry’s emergency management preparedness by development of a template plan, describing the roles and responsibilities of industry in the event of a major disease outbreak and facilitating emergency management exercises
  • Developed a National Strategy for a National Johne’s Disease Control Program
  • Facilitated consultation with national stakeholders for the “US Terminal Feedlot Pilot Project”
  • Commissioned a peer-reviewed paper identifying the animal welfare implications in the event of a major disease outbreak in Canada
  • Conducted national consultations on zoning and emergency preparedness from industry’s perspective
